It is no secret the Olympic Peninsula is most known for its iconic wild steelhead runs and home to arguably the biggest and baddest fish in the lower 48. This is my favorite time to swing spey flies for steelhead, and really the only way I want to target them. Winter Steelhead love to eat swung flies and I love to be there to watch step into the ring with one. You might want to pack an extra rain jacket, you're coming to the rain forest.

Winter steelhead are a type of anadromous rainbow trout that migrate from the ocean to freshwater rivers and streams to spawn during the winter months. They are prized by anglers for their strong fighting ability and are known for their chrome appearance. These fish play a vital role in freshwater ecosystems, and hold a very special place in our hearts not only as anglers but conservationist. Please handle with care.

Summer Steelhead

What Do I need to bring? A Washington state fishing License, a lunch

The Olympic Peninsula is certainly most known for its winter run, but we do get the opportunity to catch both the wild and hatchery summer run steelhead. These fish will come up and eat dry flies for the angler who can present it right. This time of year tends to have much more enjoyable weather and with there being fewer fish around compared to winter, it helps to bring your best skills because these fish can be tricky to catch even for the most skilled angler.

Summer steelhead, like their winter counterparts, are anadromous fish that return in the summer months. They are known for their acrobatic jumps and powerful runs, making them highly sought after by anglers. These fish are deeply important, and held dear to our hearts. Please handle with care.

6-8 weight single hand/spey/switch rods with floating or scandi shooting heads work great.
